Avalon on Sea, a comfortable, family run Guesthouse, is situated at 1 Marine Drive, directly on the seafront in Hermanus. We offer three sea facing rooms with stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean, two non seaview rooms, of which one can be used as family unit with an interleading door to an adjecent twin bedded room.

Avalon on Sea is within easy walking distance from the centre of Hermanus, allowing our visitors to leave their car in the secure carpark and walk to most of the attractions of Hermanus. The House is situated directly on the world famous "Cliff Path", stretching from the New Harbour in the West all the way to Grotto Beach in the East, a total distance of about 12km. This offers our guests an easy walk through some of the most breathtaking scenery.

During the Whale season (July to December) the position of the Guesthouse is ideal for Whale watching, as the Whales can sometimes be observed as close as 20m from the rocks. The Whales come into the protected waters of Walker Bay to give birth and to nurse their young until they are strong enough to return to the colder Antarctic waters.

Healthy breakfasts are served daily, with a selection of fruit, home baked muffins or croissants, joghurts and juices, followed by a full English breakfast or a Continental platter. A variety of Teas and Coffee is also on offer.

All our rooms are equipped with television, Tea and Coffee facility, fan and heater, safe deposit box, radio alarm clock, hairdryer and most of the rooms have a barfridge to keep your refreshments cool.

Tables, chairs and pool loungers are provided in the pool area.

Reservations for Whale boats, Shark diving, paragliding, Restaurants and other activities will be arranged by your hosts Sue and Harald.

Wine lovers will enjoy the Hemel & Aarde valley just 3km outside Hermanus, which offers beautiful wine farms for tasting and leisurly lunches.

Directions to Avalon on Sea Hermanus

From Cape Town travel East on the N2 through Somerset West, over the Howhoek mountain range and take the Hermanus turnoff. Once you come into Hermanus the first traffic light is at Onrus - straight. The 2nd traffic light is the turnoff to Sandbaai/Caledon - straight. The third traffic light is at CTM - straight. There is a pedestrian traffic light - straight and then the 4th traffic light is at the Gateway centre - straight through. After this intersection take the 4th street to your right (Albertyn street), on the corner is the Main Road Veterinary Clinic. Follow Albertyn street to the sea front - Avalon on Sea is on the left hand corner.

From Swellendam take the turnoff about 10km after Riviersonderend - left onto R326 to Stanford. Turn left in Stanford towards Hermanus. In Hermanus follow Main street straight through the first and second traffic circle. In the centre of town is a traffic light where main road makes a 90 degree turn right - follow main road and turn left after the Shell petrol station. At the T-junction (Marine Drive) turn right and follow the road - Avalon on Sea is about 800m further on the right hand side.

Main season - September to April - R350 per person to R500 per person, depending on the room.
Low season - May to August - R300 to R375 per person, depending on the room.
All rates include a full breakfast.
